Using Scan Presets

PerfBee's Site Crawler offers powerful features to help you identify and fix issues on your website. To streamline your workflow and ensure consistent scans, we've introduced Scan Presets. These are saved crawl configurations that you can reuse across multiple scans.

Understanding Scan Presets

Scan presets are pre-defined sets of settings for your Site Crawler. They allow you to quickly apply a specific configuration without manually entering all the options each time. There are two main types of presets:

  • System Presets: These are pre-built configurations provided by PerfBee for common use cases. You can't edit system presets directly, but you can fork them to create your own customized version.
  • User Presets: These are custom configurations that you create and save. You have full control over these presets, allowing you to tailor them to your specific needs.

Forking a Preset

Forking is the process of creating a new user preset from an existing system or user preset. This allows you to start with a configuration that's close to what you need and then make modifications without affecting the original preset. Here's how to fork a preset:

  1. Go to the PerfBee Dashboard and navigate to the "Broken Links" tab.
  2. Start a new crawl.
  3. Select the preset you want to fork from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the "Fork" or "Clone" button (the exact wording may vary).
  5. Modify the settings as needed.
  6. Save the new preset with a descriptive name.

Key Settings Stored in a Preset

Scan presets store various settings to define how the Site Crawler operates. These settings include:

  • Scan Mode: (Fast or Detailed) Determines the depth and thoroughness of the crawl.
  • Render JS: Whether or not to render JavaScript during the crawl.
  • Check Internal Links: Whether to check links within your own site.
  • Check External Links: Whether to check links to other websites.
  • Exclude URLs: A list of URLs or patterns to exclude from the crawl.
  • Crawl Speed: Controls the crawling behavior (auto/polite/balanced/fast).

Preset Usage Tracking

PerfBee tracks the usage of each preset. This allows you to identify the most commonly used configurations and optimize your crawling strategy. The usage count is visible within the preset management interface.

By using scan presets, you can significantly improve the efficiency of your Site Crawler workflow, save time, and ensure consistent results. Explore the available presets and customize them to fit your specific needs.
